Navigation Upgrade Not Supported in NZ
Applications, GPS, N95 September 2nd, 2007Admin Note:
I normally don’t publish articles that are posted here that read more like forum posts, but Craig has a valid concern and possibly the community of N95 users out there might be able to offer some advice.
Nokia did not release the navigation upgrade for the New Zealand region. Which is very frustrating. I am using MGMaps at the moment (Google maps linked to the GPS receiver) but this does NOT allow for journey planning or voice navigation. I am currently looking for a cheap or free alternative software package to use as a substitute.
Anyone have a similar problem, or have a solution? I am in contact with the Nokia rep here in NZ, and there doesn’t seem be a fix coming for us. I know four other N95 users in my city who share my frustrations.

You could have a look at SmartcomGPS, it has voice navigation but you will have to make your own maps for NZ

Had the same dilema while on holiday in Auckland recently/

Works perfectly with the N95 internal GPS – Not 100% on NZ support. Oh, and if it works, make sure you have a decent data plan as it downloads map data on the fly.

yh i agree, pissed me off too. i can only see like town names and not road names. But as a user of a GPS fone for the first time its pretty cool though. Mine came with details maps for Berlin and london and stuff, maybe cause mine is made in finland..

I thought that Nokia were meant to be releasing updated NZ maps which included navigation in the new year. I read it in a review online somewhere (perhaps stuff.co.nz) but can’t find it again.

The Europe upgrade of the maps application appears to work for NZ, however the maps are lacking in some details.
If your using mgmaps you can re-add google maps back in (map + Sat views, hybrid not yet working)
