New Version of Nokia Maps Available
Applications, GPS, N95 August 30th, 2007A new version of Nokia Maps is available for the N95. In addition a new version of the Nokia Map Loader is available. Unfortunately the Map Loader installs the .NET framework 3.0 on a Windows XP computer. Not sure what they were thinking.

If you use Windows Update you should already have all the .NET frameworks.
Nevermind… just thought I’d add http://maps.nokia.com is an easy URL to remember for when people ask the common questions.

Is there any difference between this new version and the V12 FIRMWARE updated version?
because as a ‘new features’ mentions A-GPS, which is already available in v12.

The .NET framework is not a critical update and as such will not be on most computers I think. Not to mention that, if You don’t actually need it, it’s really unnecessarily huge. I truly hope that there is a good reason for this move and not some Nokia developer who thought, heck, I’ll just use it and make all users do the same whether they like it or not!
For any owner of a N95 I would suggest waiting for a new firmware that already implements the latest final version of Nokia maps anyway, why waste space with two on Your system, of which You obviously cannot delete the older one?
P.S.: It kinda sucks that as of yesterday my N95 is no longer the Nokia flagship…

Addendum:
Apparently, now that I downloaded the upgrade, it seems that it will actually REPLACE the one that’s already in the N95s ROM – mighty cool!

Can somebody please check the new version number for me please. I recently downloaded and installed a new version of maps and is showing “v1.1 wk27 b02″ if you select Options/About. Just wonder if I need to update. Thanx.

Version number after installing (for me) is “v1.2 wk34 b03″

Have updated now too, thanks for your help peer!
Bit surprised that I did not have to do a Licence/update, as I read in some instructions. It just mentions I already have a license. So all went well, its amazing!

What’s that?

I’m not an expert on this subject, but I remember that the original beta that came with the phone was labelled v3. Now they moved to v1.x again. Seems that the public version is 1.2. Check as well you have the latest firmware for the phone, it supports A-GPS now.

I consider this a major DOWNGRADE! After the “upgrade”, I can no longer track where I am while planning a trip–the no-cost way of using the navigation system. So now you’re basically forced to either pay the €7/month or so, or buy a TomTom instead. Way to go Nokia.

What drives me insane is that since the original version of maps on the N95 i am unable to search via address.
Does anyone know how i can rectify this issue? Every update since the original version i try to seatch via address and everytime without fail it says its unable to find.
I have network connection set to never for GPS as its GPS… It doesn’t and SHOULDNT need a network connection to tell me where i am.

Hey Sammy – how are you entering the address you are searching for? Don’t enter the street type (eg street, road, lane etc) and if possible only enter the first few letters of the city/suburb. If you give too much detail, it will not return any results. As an example if I wanted to search for “2155 Sandgate Road, Virginia, Australia” I would put “2155″ in Number, “Sandgate” in Street, “Vir” in City and obviously select Australia in the country section.

I have an N95 and I live in Barbados. Does anyone know how I can download a map of Barbados for my phone?

Does anyone know how to downgrade from version 1.2? This version looks good, but seems useless unless you pay. I just want to go back to my old, usable version

Hey AW,
Yeah I just downgraded after upgrading, so I can use the original mapping progeam (FREE and the one that comes with the N95) all you need to do is do a hard reset of your phone – see other posts on this site about that – and you get the original free one back. naturally dont forget to backup your stuff first. Note: A hard reset keeps your firmware upgrade tho which is good, something I didnt know not being esxpert in these matters.
cheers

Hi All
Am in Australia, running firmware v12 and have been trying to install the update to maps version 1.0 have tried variants i can find… nokia_maps_1_0_upgrade_rom (v1.2) and NOKIA_Maps_1_1_S60_update (v1.1) and neither will work … I keep getting an update error.. the v1.1 file will at least prompt to install to phone or card memory but v1.2 doesn’t even get that far before coming up with the error message… fyi have tried installing to both phone memory or card memory with no luck on either.
Have been using the now old ver (v3.0 week23b01) for a while and quite like it… but am really keen to try and get the new version to work… has anyone had similar issues? and fixes out there??

I’ve just got my N95, now everytime I use the Maps software it keeps connecting to the internet to load parts of the maps where I am zooming in. Is there a way to download the map (e.g. England) into my nokia, so I do not spend money connecting to the web?, thx. (hope it is not a stupid question, I just got the phone), cheers,

Finally, in case you had already purchased a navigation license before updating smart2go to version 1.0, you can restore by the following procedure:
1. Start Maps application.
2. Go to Options > Extra services
3. Select Add navigation, accept the terms and conditions and select the correct region
4. After this select: Options > Update.
5. Allow connection to license server by selecting suitable Internet access point.
6. Press OK

You don’t need .net framework to load maps on your phone. You don’t even need Windows. You can load maps on your phone with any browser on Linux, Mac, or the built-in browser of your phone. Nokia Maploader alternative on http://nokiamaps.moo.no .
