N95 and your Mac
General, N95, Tips August 10th, 2007Nokia’s support for the MAC platform has traditionally been pretty weak. However, with the release of the iPhone, we are seeing some good things from Nokia to counter the iPhones dominance. Here is a collection of stuff to make your N95 and your Mac work together:
Nokia MultiMedia Transfer: Transfer pictures, videos, music, and more between your compatible Nokia device and Mac. Integrates audio with iTunes and pictures with iPhoto. You can also set your N95 to be recognized as a Camera. One of the coolest features however is transfering you photos to iPhoto, and have iPhoto transfer back optimized versions of your photos to your phone, keeping more space available.

Nokia N95 iSync Plugin: Sync your iCal Calendar and Address Book with your phone. Also supports Entourage, however, to get this support you must sync Entourage with .Mac. This will enable Entourage to use iSync to transfer data to your phone.
In Entourage: Preferences > Sync Services > Check all that apply.
Auto Sync: Julian Schrader has created this lite app which will open iSync, Sync, and then close iSync. Works well. there is also some discussion on his blog around automatically running this app when your phone enters the Bluetooth range of your Mac. Very handy, however I have not tested as there are two scripts to make this happen and I don’t much about combining these scripts. Perhaps a reader here can compile the scripts into a nice little pack for the rest of us.
Julian states he uses a third party app to get this functionality, called “BluePhoneElite”. You need BluePhoneElite II for the N95, but it is currently Beta, requires a purchased unlock code, and N95 support is not fully functioning yet. Keep an eye out though as the feature set, once complete for the N95, is quite robust.
More Maps: I believe this is the default app on the N95, but if you don’t have it one your phone, get it here.Load all the maps you want, and you can upgrade to the Navigational Aid.

You should see the constant war we have to wage against spammers which is why the site has to be moderated to such a large degree. Otherwise every second article and comment would be an attempt to peddle some non existant internet wares.
Steve I’ve set you up to edit your own posts..

Also, how do you make Address Book use the Bluetooth connection to the N95, in order to send/receive SMS? I used to be able to do this with my last 2 Symbian phones, a 7650 and a 3230.

I got no replies, and got no info from the web. So i bougth Nova Media’s Address Book Plugin, now I can send SMS, get call notifications on screen: but can’t receive SMS into the Mac. I’ll work that bit out soon enough.

Greetings all. Just got my N95 yesterday and I must say that I’ve learnt a lot of tips from this forum. I am having a problem with isync, as when I tried to add device, isync says that device (ie N95) is not supported. And, the N95 is not listed as a compatible device in the apple/isync site:-(. FYI, I’ve already had a Palm OS configured with iSync (with Palm Tx). Can anyone help me please..

Silly me.. I’ve found the patch for the isync N95 support and it works great now. It’s not on the MAC site, so here’s the link (It straight away download dmg file):

Cheers…

Khai, I have downloaded the plugin, I have paired my phone and still when I go to “add device” in iSync it finds my phone but says it is not compatible with iSync. If you go to your library folder under Phones or Plugins do you see anything. I have nothing in these folders. Did you have to install anything on the phone?

@Greg,
Hi Greg. Sorry, I was away for quite a while. Yes, I do see my phone name in the library/phone folder. I did not have to install anything on the phone. I had the same problem as yours prior installing the patch/plug-in. My iSync Version 2.4 (501.2)

I have another problem with iSync. My Mac (OS X 10.4.10) and my N95 link up OK, but when I have finished Sync-ing I find that all the N95 Contacts’ sub-labels have defaulted to “MOBILE”, whether they were originally a template label from the pull-down menus (such as “business” “home” etc), or custom labels (like “Susie’s friend” or “neighbour”). It is very irritating. Susie’s listing is there all right, but when I open it up all I find is a whole list of completely anonymous phone numbers. If anyone finds out a work-round for this, please please let me know.

Hi all,
I was wondering in this great big entangled world is there an application that transfers my SMS messages to my Mac. I want to use it as storage rather than deleting them all and i would imagine i could sort through them a little quicker on the Mac rather than the phone.
I currently am using Nokia Multimedia transfer and isync but neither have this functionality which i thought would have been pretty simple.
Why is this software not freely available?
