No ringtones?
General, N95, Tips August 3rd, 2007Hi! First post here, but hopefully a useful one. I’ve had a nightmare trying to change my ringtone – or more specifically my alarm tone but experienced the same problem with any profile and anything requiring a tone – ever since the first time setup, I seemed to have no tones in the phone – it showed the message “opening” and then, when it finished, the only options presented to me were to Download Sounds or switch the tones “Off”. I sent the phone away, it came back just the same. I downloaded some tones, it still didn’t find them and wouldn’t let me change my ringtone.
Then I took the microSD card out so I could send the phone back for replacement, thought I’d give it one more try – and it worked!
So, if you want to change your ringtone & the phone won’t let you, it seems the solution is to take out the SD memory card, change it, then pop it back in.

Thanks for the tip Iain.
Which firmware revision are you currently using on your phone?

Hi admin, the problem was evident before my phone went for repair but I only discovered the “fix” after it came back. I’m not sure which bit of info you’re after so the whole bunch of numbers supplied by *#0000# is as follows: Prior to fixing, it was V 10.0.018,15-03-07,RM-159,Nokia N95(13.01). Since repair, it’s now V 11.0.026,17-04-07,RM-159,Nokia N95(65.01). Regards, Iain Nash.

Hi,
This also works for me. I tried it last night on 11.0.26 and I still need to do it today, after updating to 12.0.13.
My N95 is on/branded 3 Australia.

I have the same problem, it is on the n95-3 red edition. It only lets you select OFF, if you do so then you can’t select any other sounds in that profile. I called nokia and have the solution.
HERE IS THE FIX: Go to Gallery, select either Sounds or Tracks to open the media player. Browse the sound or mp3 file you want as your ringtone, then click the left button (Options) and select “Set as ringing tone”. That’s it.
It still won’t let you select ringtones from the profile page but this does let you set any audio file as a ringtone.
Maybe there will be a firmware to fix this. MY firmware is 11.2.009

Hi everyone and thanks SO much. I just had the very same problem with the sms alarm ringtone since my last firmware upgrade. I assume if you would reformat your SD card the error is solved permanently, but I have too much data on my card to give it a try. Sliding out the SD card works fine as well. My firmware is 21.0.016 what makes me believe that this issue will remain out there.

i have the same prblem even on v31 however i think it is due to the format of the memory card! I have a 1Gb sdhc card formatted as fat and it works fine! but my 8Gb sdhc card formatted as fat 32 won’t let me! going to try to reformat my 8 Gb to fat and try that!

Well, i found a quick fix with the latest firmware (n9-1). Navigate to the Home Media App (Main Menu>Tools>Connectivity>Home Media), Share Content: Select Options (Left Softkey), then refresh contents. It will take some time depending on the number of songs, videos and photos you have. After it has finished refreshing, you should be able to select any song from the phone or memory card from within the tones menu.
