Installing the new Nokia Maps pre-release software on a N95
GPS, N95 July 24th, 2007Nokia made a pre-launch version of Nokia Maps available recently at http://mobilesearch.nokia.com/
They don’t mention the N95 as supported but there are some instructions for installing it that I found today on the 3g.co.uk forum http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?t=62157&highlight=nokia+maps
I followed the instructions and have the new mapping version running on my v12 firmware N95
There’s a nice preview of the new Nokia Maps software here: http://thenokiablog.com/2007/06/15/preview-nokia-maps-10-update/

My phone shows Maps as V3.0.
The link above shows Maps as V1.1.
I assume this an old version of the software.
If so why would you want to install it??

I can’t answer for Nokia and their versioning system.
Did you take the time to read the preview article before posting? Does it look like an upgrade or not after reading that?

You tell me!!
I quote from your comment above, “I followed the instructions and have the new mapping version running on my v12 firmware N95″

*sigh*
Internet leech alert! Given that I don’t have your phone in front of me I can’t.
A little bit of common sense, some research and perhaps a more constructive attitude on your part might be a good plan.
The preview article talks about the improvements to the software and outlines some key differences in the GUI. I strongly suspect that despite version numbers version “3.0″ on your phone is an inferior version to the .sis release above. You’ve not specified what firmware version you’re running so I’m assuming you’ve managed to get v12 onto there.

The version 1.1 might refer to Nokia maps and 3.0 to smart2go maps. They took over and decided to start from scratch.

It constantly fails to update when I run the installer on the phone. I’m with 3 (www.tre.se) and my firmware is
V 11.0.026
17-04-07
RM-159
Nokia N95 (49.01)
Any ideas?

hi! ‘long time reader, first time post-er’. I’m in Australia, with carrier ‘Mobile 3′, followed thoses instructions, (BTW, works fine and i don’t know what zefi’s on about), anyways i haven’t been able to update the firmware on my phone cause ‘mobile3′ haven’t cleared it for use with their setup yet, but the Nokia maps program works fine as far as i can tell, only prob is that my street maps for the previous version don’t show up, why is this?????? and i wouldn’t mind hearing anything other than the obvious answer like, “You need to update to firmware V12 before this will work”, anyone else had this prob?????

“this is the same firmware version i have and it took up to 4 mins before i decided to install, and then the installing took another 2min’s, so if it look’s like you n95 frozen after trying to install it, maybe put it down for a while and let it do it’s thing (slowly), time may depend on what apps are running and installed….. could work but read my previous post about this and the following prob, could apply. (in Australia)

I loaded the new Maps software onto my V12 N95 and it has reset the phone 3 times now when I start up the Maps software. Highly annoying, as are the menu changes, the fact that ‘Landmarks’ and ‘GPS position’ selection are no longer easy to find is a real PITA. I have since found them but it was so much easier when the ‘GPS position’ button was on the bottom R of the screen.
I was wondering how to go back to V1 of the Maps, can it be done? How far away is official the release of V1.1?
Cheers!
