Map searching now works without a network connection
GPS, N95, Tips May 2nd, 2007As part of the most recent firmware update V11.0.026,
you can now search for addresses without being connected to a network.
Just be sure to use a suburb/town name rather than a postcode.
This feature worked for some customers previously, however those of us in Australia always had to maintain an active network connection.
Note: You need to make sure you have the maps downloaded and saved to your memory card. On a new N95 there are some basic maps contained in phone memory. I would guess that these are non searchable. See the tip on downloading the latest maps.
Version number required is v3.0 w12 b02 (to find your version Maps – Options – About)

I cannot get the address search function to work not matter what I do.
It always comes back with “No results found” whether it is connected or not.

Are the maps on the memory card or on internal phone memory?
When searching keep the search parameters really simple.
Try this
Number: 55
Street: Flinders
city or postcode: Melbourne
Country: Australia
That search gives me a bunch of results when I am NOT connected.
Make sure you don’t use postcodes and don’t use a designation for the street address ie. Road, Rd, Highway etc.

Hi, when i try and use the software updater, it asks me to put in my phones product code, and then tells me that there is no software update available. My phone is using version 10.0.018. Is there any other way to get it? Also my phone is from vodafone and it has settings for vodaphone as well as some directories to get to vodfone live etc. Will these stay on my phone?

I have updated the lastest firmware. I previously have downloaded Australia map using Nokia Maploader but when I connect the phone to PC using mass media mode, Maploader has no record of map in my card. Yet, even when I am disconnected from network and purely using GPS signal, I still am able to search for addresses. I presume the map is somewhere in my phone but I can’t locate it. I get the impression from other blogs that there is a private folder which I am also able to locate, within which there are multiple subfolders. I have no idea what they are and which ones would possibly have the maps I loaded previously. COuld some one explain this?

I have new firmware v12 and have reloaded Aus maps. No joy on any searches including the one above. Has ANYONE had any luck with this in the Perth area?

I too can not search through my maps for addresses unless I connect to the net. I have read that if you load the maps using map loader 1.0 you can but I can’t find a copy of it anywhere.
Someone please help as there has to be a way around this.

I had the same problem but finally figured things out. The key to use the search address feature on the N95 8GB is maps installed on your phone and data entry. For the data entry the address should be entered as followed:
Number: yes, number only
Street: for US streets, make sure you put th, st, rd after your street number
City or postcode: city only. If you enter zip code, you’re screwed.
Good luck!

Personally I find the lack of connection requirement on search useful in theory but when regularly using maps to find locations and addresses in unfamiliar territory, the full Post Code search was much more user friendly when a network connection was available.
Does anyone know of a work-around that’ll still search on a full 5-digit postcode when network connectivity is available?

Shoot – I meant full 7-digit search, not 5-digit search (5 is too inaccurate when you don’t know the locales because it gives you a long list of areas & you don’t always guess the right one). sorry
