Updating Your N95 Firmware
Firmware, General, N95, Tips November 12th, 2008Greetings everyone!
I had some problems like a lot of people while trying to update my N95 to v30 firmware, because even when we know it’s already available for download, Nokia Updater keeps saying we are with the latest firmware.
So, as isawan95 said in New N95-1 Firmware Available v30.0.015, some providers customize the firmware before sell the phone.
This way, they change your Product Code to one that, for Nokia, will be forever firmware vxx.xx. In my case, v21.0.016.
So, i’ve found a tutorial explaining how to change your product code easily. I’ve translated since was in Portuguese-br.
TUTORIAL
Disclaimer: The informations described in this tutorial are intermediary-advanced and, if made anything wrong, you can damage or even ‘kill’ your phone. I suggest you follow these steps ONLY IF YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY SURE of what you are doing.
In any way, MyN95 admins or RaphaelDDL are guilty to whatever happens to our phone if YOU did something wrong or anything. We did NOT forced you to do
So, let’s get started.
1 ) Install Nokia PC Suite or NSeries PC Suite, connect your phone with the USB cable in Pc Suite Mode and make sure it was detected and working perfectly. Normally, one of those softwares comes in the CD-Rom that came in the phone box. I recommend you to update its version to the latest and, i like more NSeries PC Suite, but you choose
2 ) Download the following softwares:
* Nemesis Service Suite ( My Mirror at DepositFiles )
* Nokia Software Updater ( I can’t mirror since website detects the language and you will download an specific language exe)
3 ) Install Nemesis Service Suite without changing anything and PAY ATTENTION at the ending of installation where it will show you a tutorial explaining how install the necessary driver. Then:
* Open the program and click in the “Scan for New Device†button, in the upper-right.
* Click in “Phone Infoâ€
* Clique in “Read†and, with other info, will show you your current Product Code.
4 ) ATTENTION, this step is very important!!!
In this point, the original and blocked “Product Code†of your phone will be replaced to one update able. The following list show you some “Product Codes†that allow you to update your firmware, both to N95-1 (EURO) and N95-3 (NAM). Pick the one accordingly to your phone type!
N95-1
#0548763
#0546222
#0549028
N95-3
#0552432
#0552434
Question: What type is my phone?
Answer: N95-1 have Lens Protector while N95-3 don’t. Look the damn photos
N95-1

N95-3

5 ) Type the chosen Product Code in the form, check the “Enable†checkbox and click in the “Write†button. That’s it, the Product Code of your phone has been replaced. Check if everything worked fine by clicking in “Read” again. Now will be shown the new Product Code.
6 ) Nokia PC Suite and NSeries PC Suite have the Backup option. I ask.. No, i DEMAND YOU to backup the phone!
6.1 ) MAKE SURE your phone have Full Battery.
I suggest you to make the updating in a GOOD Notebook because if Energy drop and your pc turn off or pc freeze ’cause your pc sucks or anything, say good bye to your phone and be sure you got some cash in bank to buy other one
7 ) Simply update your firmware using Nokia Software Updater, following the things the program ask you.
8 ) Its Ready! Your phone is now updating and unbloked!
…Hey, wait!?! Where are my Contacts, my Configs, everything!?!!?
Yeah, updating firmware is like formatting your PC. That’s why i told you to make backup! Simply use Nokia/NSeries PC Suite and restore it.
9 ) Re-install your applications.
10 ) Future Firmware updates does not need this big tutorial, you will just need to start from Step #7.
And that’s it, our tutorial is over.

Hello Raphael DDL,
It’s gratifying to see my tuto translated to another languages helping more people around the world.
Just one little tip, those Product Codes listed in the tuto are Portuguese-BR, I think you should exchange then to match yours!
Nice job and thanks for the credits!

Thanks to both RaphaelDDL & Rodrigo for this info. I am sure it will be useful to a lot of people who want to update the firmware on their N95′s

Nice write up RaphaelDDL! Cheers for the mention as well!
For those that pick a European code you can disable the camera sound by turning warning sounds off. They made it a requirement in asia/aus for every camera to make a sound when a photo is being taken, (peddo reasons) but its kinda annoying for me, (and I’m not that sick).
Comon! Lets keep the articles/themes/applications coming! I’m not giving into this ipwn craze just yet!

Thanks very much for this tutorial; however, even if i change the product code, i am still told there is no update. My original information was: V11.2.011 RM-421, but Nokia software updater says this is the current version. With my original product code, i am given the option to reinstall the firmware, but not update it. With different product codes, the Nokie Software Updater says its current but does not give the option to reinstal. Their help says there is a newer version.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Never mind. Apparently my model is the n95-4 (Canada). Found the code 0561948 to use.
Thanks again for the tutorial.

Thanks a lot for the tutorial, it was very helpful, I was able to update the firmware but only to 20.2.011 as my Nokia is a N95-3, I checked all the codes for the N95-3 and none of it update to de 30. firmware. Is it posible to use a code of the N95-1 in my phone, or will mess everything?
thanks again and greetings from Argentina

Just wanted to say thanks for sharing that code Ben, I am also in Canada and couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. With that Canada code 0561948 the N95 updated itself as per the tutorial.
