Firmware 21.0.016 is now available
Firmware, N95 March 28th, 2008This firmware is now available via the Nokia Software Updater.
It might not be in place for all regions just yet, I’ll be trying mine tonight or tomorrow so I’ll report back then.
Most interesting features for this release are:
# Flash Lite 3 is included, so Flash video sites will work, including YouTube (just as on the N95 8GB v15 firmware from a couple of months ago)
# The Web runtime is included, meaning that standalone widgets are now possible
# Greater Bluetooth headset compatibility
# Better handling of entering lots of text into web page dialogs
# Speedier Gallery in every way
# Faster Java runtime, so Java apps start faster

just updated. To be honest i am not impressed. Gallery is speeded up a touch, and flash is viewable on the net now, but i am finding the phone is hanging in some menu selections. Anyone else got the same problem?
March 29th, 2008 at 1:34 am
Does anyone else have a issue with the camera not working now?? I have upgraded and restored a backup but the camera no longer works :S kinda annoying.
March 29th, 2008 at 8:29 am
Cam works, eveything works, but menu hangs. Did you backup to the mem card or to the pc suite.
March 29th, 2008 at 9:05 am
i had updated to this firmware and oddly my microphone doesnt seem to work =[ . whenever someone tries to call me they cant seem to hear me at all but i can hear them completely. is this another bug on this darn firmware ?
March 29th, 2008 at 10:28 am
all who have updated to this new firmware.. do you have the apps rotate me in 21.0.016? or will i have to install it?
March 30th, 2008 at 1:53 am
i can’t even update the firmware, i get an “internal module error” in the nokia update app.
March 30th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
okay guys, seems quite a few things are not working with this update. my cam seems to work though. i also noticed that the charging animation now never stops running – so you basically cannot be certain anymore if the battery is charged or if the phone is still charging it. very annoying.
March 30th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
I upgraded to this firmware early last week and I havent experienced any of the above problems.
March 31st, 2008 at 1:03 am
I’ve updated and all seems to be ok…except that a few apps were missing after the backup, which I had to reinstall. Backup and restored was done via PC suite btw.
March 31st, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Everything works fine for me. I really like the speed improvements although they are minor.
April 1st, 2008 at 8:51 am
Well all works fine for me except they did nothing to fix the problem of the blueotooth and connection as l have a CD-BT200 bluetooth unit and it works with very phone before the N95 and this update was meant to fix bluetooth issue but still doesn;t work????
April 1st, 2008 at 8:54 am
if anyone is getting an “internal module error” on updating firmware up date your nokia fireware updater and it will work fine make sure you have ver 1.4.23
April 1st, 2008 at 6:19 pm
As I understand, this update is for N95-1 only?
April 2nd, 2008 at 1:42 am
Update fixed a lot of issue for me but also introduced more. Wifi is actually reliable now which is great, as is the gallery improvements.
But I get the occasional random hang (once a week) to which I can not find any pattern (or solution). Fingers crossed the next update will address these issues.
PS – now that Youtube works on the NOkia browser, does anyone know how to get flash to work on Opera Mini? I think it’s a much better browser but just lacks flash playback.

My camera also stopped working after installing the 21.0.016 firmware. I did a restore again, and still didn’t work. But today I did 2 things with my n95, and suddenly the camera works again. I don’t know wich of the 2 things fix it, but I think it is worth trying. 1st thing I enabled bluetooh in order to install an application into my n95 without wires. 2nd thing installed Windows Live Messenger for Symbian S60V3, from the following link. http://www.box.net/shared/l5lg5v5rfb (very Important: Install the dep.sisx before the other file of windows live messenger for s60v3). I hope it fixes the camera problem for everybody.

Hi,
let me ask you something if anyone knows.
the firmware will cover other languages such as greek?
thank you.
April 4th, 2008 at 9:05 am
Upgraded my N95 yesterday and it seems fine. Cams all ok and menus seem not to be hanging… yet.
April 4th, 2008 at 9:12 am
A shame they haven’t included a RotateMe equivelent in the update… it seems to be the most sought after gizmo for the phone!
April 4th, 2008 at 10:16 am
@18
Try flashing(update) the phone again, it might help.
I haven’t had any problems.
@19
I checked the list of supported languages, and Greek is not on my list. I “debranded” my phone, so I have the update from Nokia and not my provider. But my advice it to go ahead and try.
April 5th, 2008 at 11:40 am
I’ve upgraded mine, but I still can’t understand this statement in the changelog “Switch from landscape to portrait mode & screen rotations
improvements.”.
Does it means we have a “rotateme” equivalent in the new firmware?
April 5th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
menus hang, phone completely freezes on rare occasions, gps takes ages to find sattelites where as with the firmware before last it would not take amy longer than 20 seconds max. There is obviously still alot of issues nokia needs to address they need to get their ass into gear and get the next one right
April 5th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
Hi Mikeyjay,
I don’t know what your talking about, my N95 is fast, every thing is working smoothly….GPS logs in seconds, not freezes, I’m very happy with it.
Maybe something is wrong with your phone- not software…
April 6th, 2008 at 3:28 am
Na dnt have rotateme or eqvlnt. See my post in rotateme 2.0 final. Have updated mine no probs at all.
April 7th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
I have noticed an issue with the battery animation.
It shows its charging etc perfectly, but it doesnt seem to drop when im using it.
Then all of a sudden it drops to 1 bar and i then start to get warnings about low battery and have to charge it pretty quickly.
April 8th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
hi dean its obvious that its not my phone because alot of people are having similar problems. Maybe you dont use your phone to the extent that some of us do. And if the firmware was as good as you make it out to be nokia would have no need for revisions. However i am sure they will be ironing out yet even more bugs as we speak for their next revision which im sure will pop up in the next couple of months.
April 9th, 2008 at 2:36 am
I have this nokia n95 8GB which my girlfriend changed the cecurity code and is trying to enter the code again, but the phone is now locked. “Pin code blocked. Enter PUK code” does anyone knows how to reset this or get rid of that screen at startup? At present the phone cannot be used. Its locked…
April 9th, 2008 at 3:29 am
hi ive just upgraded using the nokia upgrader from version 20 to 21 ,,,,,,,,i noticed that each time i used video camera it freezes or hangs then i have to remove the battery just to switch it off. anyone experience this ??
April 9th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Andrew Cyrus, I know the problem. The phone is not locked. The sim card is. You changed the PHONE security code, not the SIM security code. You then entered in the *new* PHONE security code when you should have been entering the SIM code (which it asks for before the phone one). You entered it incorrectly three times, which locks the sim card for security reasons.
Call your phone company (not nokia, the ones who provide the sim) and ask for the PUK code. They’ll give it to you for free. Problem solved.
April 9th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
hi strange yes i have experienced this only since i upgraded for the last 2 firmware updates. It doesnt happen all the time but it does happen and is very annoying. You will probably find that it may do it at other times also like for instance if you press skip while loading maps. I think the only thing we can do is hope that the next firmware release will fix this problem among several others.
April 10th, 2008 at 9:55 am
After updating I am having problems with menu buttons not working. For example; while webbrowsing- I couldnt use the middle button to click on links.
Also top 2 menu buttons will all of sudden not work (and require phone to be restarted).
Also, I just noticed I connect the phone to my computer anymore..?? it is not detecting via USB..
worst firmware yet.
any suggestions?
April 12th, 2008 at 12:49 am
Doesn’t sound too good… I might stay clear of this update then, seeing that I’ve got V20 and not having any major issues with it (Except for the internet browser closing down halfway through browsing on some occasions). Or I might wait for some more positive feedback over the next few days (If it comes!)
April 13th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
in this firmware my GPS cant trace a route….
Some times hes calc and close, others show the map and close or trace a ilogical route,,,
Any one have this problems?
April 15th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Hey guys!
When I look for updates to my N95 phone I get the message that the latest update is is 12.0.13 and not 21.0.016! Are there N95′s that this update doesn’t apply to?
April 16th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
Ya same my n95 says 12.0.13 or w.e and not 21.0.016 is there a way i can fix thiS? i tried to use NSS to change the code but it wont detect my phone T_T help any1 T_T
April 17th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
This new firmware sucks. The battery indication is not working properly. It shows me that my phone is fully charged for days and than at once it goes empty.
Makelle, Adrian: because you have bought your phones from your mobile operator. There is a custom firmware from your mobile operators on it which you cant upgrade over the software updater. There are some tools on the net that can help you with this issue.
April 18th, 2008 at 11:19 am
nokia really fucked things up this time. latest uptade sux,my camera flash works weird now; every time i use it ,it makes photos look darker then the ones without flash. anyone has the same problem and knows how to fix it??? and yeah,my rotateme doesnt work any more
April 19th, 2008 at 6:43 am
this firmware is shit mobile frezzes at least once a day screen and keypad lights up and does not go away until i pull teh battery out
April 23rd, 2008 at 3:47 pm
mmmm how long until the next version?? nokia please fix this bug!!!
April 27th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
my WLAN is not working & always gave me WLAN:WLAN is already active close it & try again.that is really bad i hope NIKIA could fix that all in the next version which i hope it comes quicky.
April 28th, 2008 at 10:34 am
is your wlan connected to your home wifi? Did you configure the router properly? I had that problem recently.
Re firmware: is there a repository for the older firmware versions that we can download? Can we install previous versions of firmware on our phones?
April 28th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
I’ve had no problems with this update whatsoever, Wlan is working fine, bluetooth working great, youtube video’s play fine, battery indicator working as it should, infact it doesn’t suffer from any of the problems mentioned up above. All I would suggest is re-installing the update and seeing if that fixes the problems.
April 28th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
or… what applications do you have installed? Could there be a problem with anyone of them?
April 30th, 2008 at 1:37 am
GUYS
the solution for all the problems is NOT TO RESTORE THE CONTENT FO THE PHONE after upgrading. Restore one by one what you need. If you restore everything, many applications will not work. I had my Nokia MAps always crashing.I wasted one day to try to fix this problem but at the end by reinstalling the programs one by one and by copying teh contacts with pc suite everything works fine.
May 3rd, 2008 at 12:11 am
Had no problems with this latest firmware update. My last firmware decided to get a starneg software glitch which made the phone unusable anyway, so this was a saviour for me. But the only ting I can see that is wrong, as has already been suggested is the battery indicator. It seems to stay on full for longer hen drop to one bar not long before th battery goes dead. But I have noticed to a greater power saving over all in mine. I use it at only average levels and drop it in the charger every night around 7pm. Used to charge for an hour or so before it was full. Now it is done in 15-20 mins, so I think they have done some work on the power consumption.
Also, as someone else stated the WiFi is much better and more stable.
Can’t see any other problems. I don’t think the menus are much faster personally either. I like the N-Gage and the standby screen web/phone search menu as well. Java is also great now. Good for looking atanimated weather radar maps while out and about.
I wish they would fix the GPS lock time. Mine is still slow as well, as other people have stated. I don’t use the Nokia navigation software, as it is rubbish. Prefer Garmin XT mobile with the Australian maps myself. No need to connect to the internet o navigate then….
May 8th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Hello, just payed for the GPS navigation with voice guidance once again. I purchased a 7 day licence previously and it worked perefectly. This time I purchased a 30 day licence and the signal constantly drops out and then the thing goes crazy. You get a full signal when your stopped and then while your driving the phone is searching for GPS signal 90% of the time.

I have upgraded to the latest Firmware 21.0.016 using NSU(after updating the latest) and have very serious problems.I did not debrand the though phone though.
I did a backup and re-installed 3 times and even did a Soft reset *#7370# Hard reset code *#7780# of phone and card 1GB sd Card memory.Re Installed it again in vain.
The Camera stops working and it doesnt evem initilatize. it just gives a flicker and goes back to the menu though my bar code reader is working with the camera.
Secondly i cant see the Youtube videos in the browser i click a youtube video and it streams from my real player and not from the browser after the update to V21.0.
Though i did get an extra 28MB ram and the browser speed is faster.
Can someone please help me to fix this as camera is a vital part in my chosing the N95. Please do not say take it back to the Nokia Care Center and contact Nokia directly. Please help me with a genuine reply. Thanks
May 15th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
I have the same camera problem. It simple does not initialize. Just rotate the phone and the goses back to previous screen. If anyone solves it, please tell us how to do that.
Thanks!!!
May 17th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Have the problem concerning the cameras after updating the firmware. Please help.
May 19th, 2008 at 11:07 am
I did debranded to EURO1(I’m in the Middle East) and reinstalled the firware.Grrrr. The problem still remains. Where are all the brilliant techies in here gone?. Don’t you have a solution which should put the bigwigs in Nokia to shame.I hate to go to those Nokia care centers as I have sorted out a lot of my mobile problems from the net than the unreliable care centers.
Please hlp!
May 19th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
im a gadget freak myself & i think im quite hot figuring out regarding series60 phones…… but my N95 ive done all sorts of stuffs to fix the freezing problem i gave up!!
so what i did i returned it to nokia & hey what do you know they gave up too so they replaced my n95 with a new 1 !!!

May 19th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
1 thing id like to request the nokia people is to UPDATE MORE MAPS IN NOKIA MAPS LIKE PHILIPPINES SO THE GPS & ITS MAPPING FEATURE CAN BE USED MORE EFFICIENTLY !!!!!!!!
REQUESTING PHILIPPINE CITIES MAPS NOKIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 21st, 2008 at 11:14 pm
I also have the camera issue
I tried turning in bluetooth and installing MSN (as suggested in previous posts) but it didnt change anything for me.
Ive also tried completely formatting (all 3 ways, hard soft, and 3keys) and still no luck. Even if I leave the phone memory blank (not restoring any of my old data) it still doesnt work. Ive tried this about 4 times and no luck. I’m guessing there is a fault with the firmware, in that it doesnt do a complete wipe of the old firmware.
And perhaps some old and new bits are conflicting – whereas if u did it with a completely (blank) new phone it would work fine.
June 1st, 2008 at 5:16 am
Hi all
I bit the bullet last night and installed V21. and so far so good. Phone is notably quicker. Still unable to comment on battery life as I’ve just installed the firmware. Overall, not the big improvement V20 was over it’s predecessor, but still good. No problems with camera or browsing or anything else mentioned here…hope I don’t jinx myself..
June 3rd, 2008 at 6:07 pm
Hi! I’ve upgraded my N-95 to the V. 21 (previous v. 12) and I’ve the same camera problem. It simple does not initialize. When I activate it, the phone goes back to previous screen. If anyone solves it, please tell me how to do that.
Thanks!!!
June 19th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Maximiliano La Rosa ,,,i tell you ive done a pretty extensive search in finding a solution for this cuz if youve read my prevoius abouve post i had the same promblem!@!!!
now what i have notice in other forum & what i have gathered that all of us who have this problem share the same history like earlier firmware version upgarding using the nokia software udater TO firmware V21 !! it seems that some old hardware parts in our nokia are not compatible with the NEW firmware !!!
SO WHATEVER YOU DO OR THE ANY SERVICE CENTER even if they do a hard reset e.t.c… it wont fix the problem!!!
HAVE THE WHOLE UNIT REPLACED BY NOKIA IS THE ONLY SOLUTION!
September 2nd, 2008 at 11:33 am
hi,
I updated recently and now my phone seems to have a problem with the handset speaker. Keypad tones no longer work and it is if the phone has muted itself, this includes calls so i cant speak or hear anyone. This problem seems to be intermittent in that it work sometimes and others it doesnt does anyone have any suggested fixes. Or could it possibly be a hardware fault?
September 14th, 2008 at 11:14 am
I am one of many people whose N95 8Gig (RM-320) malfunctioned since the 21.0.016 update.
Immediately after that update, my camera stopped working. It still doesnt work after upgrading to v30.0.018 firmware.
My phone was purchased in Bangkok, Thailand, but I live and use the phone in Australia.
Can anyone else who is also having camera problems (with N95 8GB) tell me where they bought their phones from. I’m arguing with Nokia about this, and I need as much background info as I can get. They are telling me that its not their fault and I have to take it back to Thailand to get it fixed. What rubbish!!!
Thanks.
September 14th, 2008 at 11:32 am
Also, as soon as I enable:
Automatic screen rotation:
(Settings > General > Personalization > Display > Rotate Screen)
It crashes my phone on the first rotate! It then simply stays on the white screen with blue nokia logo, or goes black. Had to do 3finger salute to get it to work again.

i hv no idea how to update my phone. help me to do that. tell me step by step.. pls
