- UPnP interoperability improved.
You can streaming from a media server direct to your phone now. No need for something like ORB.
Go to the Home media menu via
Menu -> Tools -> Connectivity -> Home media -> Browse home
Select your media server. I have a TwonkyMedia server running on a Freecom Strorage Gateway. This works with other UPnP servers as well.
Find the music your after and select Options -> Play -> On device
If you press select it tries to find a media device to play it. A bit of a shame it defaults to looking for other media players on your network…. It takes a while for my music to start streaming so you might have to be patience.
This also works with photos but I haven’t got it working with videos yet. Videos might probably need to be in a compatiable format maybe?

JDB i got mine via using the Nokia Software Updater.
http://europe.nokia.com/softwareupdate
or a direct link
http://europe.nokia.com/A4579163
(there might be one closer to where ever you are in this world)
Comments on new firmware: I have found that when I reply to sms’ it takes forever for the sms composing screen to finally come up. Also if I set the “Create New Text Message” as a shortcut in my active standby apps it takes for ever to load as well. I’m not too sure if anyone else is experiencing this? its driving me mental.

Anybody know of a way to Update the firmware when you have a Mac ?
Come on Nokia stop living in 2004!!!

I’ve found that I lose reception a lot since upgrading which is a bit of an annoyance.
Instead of being really low reception like it used to be, it just cuts out completely now.

Nashy,
Are you with three or someone else?
Do you also have the phone set to use GSM or only UMTS instead of the Dual setting?

“Some people have reported issues with not being able to
connect to their PC via USB cable after update”
I guess I’m some people then. anyone found a fix for this yet??

I find that since upgrading to latest version of everything, I can only rarely get a lock on GPS, and even then it takes a loooong time.
With version 12 or so, it used to be so quick and easy, even indoors sometimes.
How do I downgrade back to the old one?
December 20th, 2007 at 4:42 pm
I have problems importing my contacts from my old version to the new v20.
I’ve backed it up and is also says successful, the only thing that has changed is the settings, messages and contacts didnt come over.
Any help?

I’ve just updated my Firmware to V20.0.015 and have been attempting to set up the GPS. I downloaded the Nokia map loader and used it to install Nokia_maps_1_0_upgrade_ROM. Ideally I don’t want to have to use packet data for the GPS, prefering to download the maps via the PC, but after not getting anywhere with this I ticked all the boxes, to allow the GPS to access the network. However, despite ticking all the boxes, on launching maps I am informed that network usage is disabled, and that I can enable it from Application Settings – but haven’t I already done this? Most confusing! When I open Application manager I see an icon of the Earth with ‘Download apps’ next to it. On opening ‘options’ and viewing the log, I can see that I must have actually downloaded Nokia Maps (1.02(1)) twice (there are two of them). When launching maps, and accepting that network usage is disabled, I can see the Earth up to the point where I scroll in too far, after which there is nothing to see. I’m guessing this is where the maps in the’Download apps’ in App. manager should be taking over and doing their stuff. Guys, can someone write a brief guide as in to what I should do next, please? Something along the lines of ….check that in this section you have this application, and that in this here you should have this file. Or, failing that, instruction on how to uninstall everything to do with Maps/GPS, allowing me to start from scratch. Should I get maps from the main Nokia website or from the Smart2go website? Lastly, can anyone point out a link that gives a detailed instruction on setting up what should be a relatively painfree process? I used to have the GPS working before to street level so I know my phone is capable. Thanks in advance, Flyer01

To Joseph:
No Panic – I had the same issue after the upgrade to V20.
Upgrade to the latest version of PC Suite and then you should be able to restore your contacts again.

Anyone know when Three Australia are going to release the update?
January 1st, 2008 at 6:13 pm
Hi Frustrated,
i kind of observed as well that the GPS lock is taking longer than 12.0.013! Have to do more tests. Did you find some solution to it ? The changelog claims GPS lock is faster than before ??

Nah – it’s no better. Basically, as a GPS device it’s now no more functional than a brick, as far as I’m concerned.
Firstly, it takes far to long to lock, if at all, and secondly, with tracking disabled (in unpaid mode) it’s like buying a car, then sending it in for service, and finding they’ve disconnected, say, the radio, and requiring you to pay every time you use it i.e. it no longer works the way it did when you first got it, and to make it work that way, they hold you to ransom.

Howdy all, bit of dredge here but I have just noticed that since the firmware update my headset controls dont work for using the music player. Ive just put a 4 gig MicroSD card in my phone so im using the music player a lot more and it would be awesome to get this working again.
Any ideas?
P.S. My mate has tried this also and he cannot use the function either

i bought a N95 brand new on ebay and it has all 3 mobile stuff on it. how can i get rid of all of the 3 mobile stuff?
March 12th, 2008 at 1:17 am
Im having problems since I upgraded also.
*Voice activation no longer works properly and even if you do get a match its the wrong one whereas before it used to match almost first time every time.
*Takes ages to load GPS if at all.
*Have to change time and date again after switching off.
*Sometimes messages wont open, you can open them the first time but sometimes you cant go back in and open them later.
*Headset no longer works properly.
and probably a whole lot more that I havent come accross yet.
P.S. I think that all n95 owners should write to Nokia and demand free GPS service as we all have paid for the top of the line Nokia phone but do not get the top of the line service like some lower models do and for Nokia to do this is a big slap in the face for anyone who purchased an N95.

Hi people, I’ve upgrade to v20 and now my phone cannot find satellites for GPS. However, my battery time has gone up from 1 to 3 days, which is a bonus. I currently cannot access WLAN any more. I bought it as a replacement for my sat nav, iPod and phone to use on my motorbike, but now the sat nav is not working I’m a little concerned as the touring season is nearly here and I’m sat nav less. Thanks Nokia! Has anyone tried to email them? I did a week ago and have not yet received a reply.
